Isn’t it time you said goodbye to tooth loss?
As a child, losing a tooth was an exciting rite of passage (and it often meant a little monetary gift under the pillow, too!). Unfortunately, it isn’t the same positive experience when an adult loses a permanent tooth. If you are an adult who is missing one or more teeth, the most important thing is that you don’t just ignore the issue. Dr. F. Neal Pylant, our periodontist serving Athens, Georgia, and the surrounding areas, can help replace your missing teeth with the next best thing: dental implants. These small tapered metal posts are designed to take the place of tooth roots. Our Athens, GA, implant dentist will surgically place the implant into a pre-drilled hole in the jawbone where your missing tooth used to be. What makes implants so unique, and also very similar to natural teeth, is that they are made from a biocompatible metal like titanium, meaning that the body doesn’t reject it but, instead, bonds to it.
Once the implant is placed into the jawbone, we will give your mouth time to heal. During this healing process, the bone and tissue will begin to bond around the implant to become one. After a couple of months, the implant and jawbone will fuse together, making the implant a durable and often lifelong foundation from which to support a dental crown.
Of course, if you are missing multiple teeth, or even a full row of teeth, dental implants can still help you get your smile back. In this case, up to six implants can be placed along the jawbone. Once the implants are placed, we can place your preexisting dentures or new dentures over the top of the implant to support and hold the teeth in place. Implant-supported dentures are a great option for someone who is dealing with severe tooth loss who may not be satisfied with how their dentures feel or fit.
Tooth loss doesn’t have to have the final say when it comes to your smile and appearance. Let dental implants turn this around for you. Our Athens, GA, dental team is ready to help. Call us today to schedule your consultation.
